What is an Apothecary?

Apothecary, by definition refers to both the medical professional who formulates and dispenses material medica (medicine) distilling, mixing, and dosing of medications and liquors, in-house for physicians and patients. Unlike a modern pharmacy, an apothecary can mix multiple medications together as requested by a physician.

Our apothecary allows our naturopathic doctors to not only educate their patients on options for natural health, but allows individualized treatment using professional, high quality ingredients in order to achieve optimal overall health.

Herbs & Teas

What is a Dried Herb/Infusion?

An infusion (dried herb) is a herbal preparation in which a ground herb or plant component (e.g., bark, root, nuts or seeds) is boiled in water to obtain an extract and ingested for therapeutic benefits.

At The Village Health Clinic, we stock a vast variety of herbs allowing our Naturopathic Doctor's to make custom tea's for their patients.

These custom tea's can address a variety of symptoms including: stress, skin conditions, immunity, hormonal imbalances, sleep concerns, anxiety and more!

Tinctures

What is a Tincture?

Tinctures are liquid extracts of flowers, leaves, bark, roots etc, usually in alcohol, for weeks and then strained and concentrated to obtain the active constituents of the plant. Alcohol is considered a great solvent as it is food grade and allows for the medical constituents such as the resin and alkaloids to be used. Typically dosages are no more more than 1 tablespoon of the extract.

Other extractions can be glycerin based or vinegar based (upon request) Water is not used as it is poorly soluble

We stock an array of single tinctures that can be combined to address individual patient concerns such as: immunity, fertility, menstrual irregularities, anxiety, digestion, hormonal imbalances, sleep concerns, stress and more!
